Scene 1
We open with a establishing aerial shot of oswestry in the afternoon (around 6:30 on a spring evening), this establishes the location and setting of the short film. The aerial shot then continues as it travels to an estate and begins to zoom in which is immediately followed by a series of quick cuts that focus in on the estate and then one particular house. The camera then pans to a window where we see someone sitting on a sofa and watching TV.
We then cut to a medium shot of the room with mike sitting on his living room sofa, when his mum walks in to the room and sits next to him. Mike is a 17 year old boy, which short black hair, he is taller than average with hazel eyes and his nose has been broken at least once. This is shown by the crook in his nose from said injury.
Mike’s mum (Meredith)
Are you ok?
Mike
Yeah, I’m fine
Mike’s mum (Meredith)
Ok, what are you watching?
Mike
Not much, just browsing through channels
Mike’s mum (Meredith)
Alright then, have you done your work for school tomorrow? (Putting her arm around him)
Mike
Not yet
Mike’s mum (Meredith)
Well, you should go and do that, I’ll go and make some food, What do you fancy?
Mike
Yeah, ok and anything, I don’t mind (uninterested)
Mike exits the room, the camera tracks him from the side through the wall as he walks to the next room and sits at a table and begins to type on a laptop as we cut to the second house.
Scene 2
We open with Taylor opening her eyes in shock as she wakes up, and looks around the room as the camera pans out. We see that she is sat in her bedroom. She takes her headphones out; this causes the music that is heard in the beginning of the scene fades out. Taylor unplugs her headphones from her phone and puts them aside taking a look at her phone and seeing that she has 8 new messages 3 missed calls and a missed alarm. The time displayed on the phone is 6:52 pm. Taylor is a 18 year old girl with long brown hair and green eyes, she is around average height if not slightly above.
Taylor
Oh no, I overslept again
She then begins to read the messages.
Taylor’s Dad (Robert) (voice over)
Are you ok? Did you get home safely, how was school? I’m going to be late coming home tonight. There is a dinner in the fridge, all you have to do is put it in the microwave for about 10 minutes. Are you going to answer, Hello???
Taylor
(Typing back), sorry I was asleep, I’m fine and so was school, thanks
She gets out of bed and heads out of the room, putting her phone in her pocket.
Scene 3
We transition to the third house and we see our third protagonist, Sam. We see as we pan to the third house Sam is walking down the driveway and enters his house the same time the camera pans into his house. This sequence is shot as a tracking shot. We see Sam drop the school bag and proceed to walk into the dining room. Sam is a 17-year-old boy who has blue eyes and light brown scruffy hair, He is also slightly above average height.
Sam’s Foster mum (Janice)
Oh, you back. How was college?
Sam
It was alright
Sam’s Foster Dad (Seth)
Is that it?
Sam
Yep
Sam’s Foster Dad (Seth)
What’s up with you
Sam
Nothing (sighs)
Sam’s Foster Dad (Seth)
Hey
Sam ignores him and walks out of the room, grabbing a packet of crisps off the counter as he walks into his bedroom and locks the door
Sam’s Foster Dad (Seth)
Sometimes, I want to…
We transition to Sam sitting on his bed eating his packet of crisps as he turns on his TV. He takes his phone out and begins to scroll through Facebook.
Sam
(Long sigh) So, this is what people do all die
We see a message pop up on Sam’s Phone.
Sam = *
Martin = (
(Hey, how are you?)
*I’m ok thanks, what about you?*
(Im’, good buddy, you?)
*not bad, thanks*
(hey, some of us are going out tonight do you want to tag along?)
*No, im alright, I have things to do*
(Ok, I guess ill see you tomorrow)
Sam puts down his phone and lies in his bed and switches on his TV. The TV turns on to a broadcast of the news. With the broadcaster saying in the background talking about a car accident that is the third this week.
Scene 4
We cut to the next morning and we see Sam’s alarm goes off, as he lays in his bed, disinterested he slowly gets out of bed and yawns as his foster mum walks in.
Sam’s Foster Mum
(Joyfully) Morning, breakfast is on the table. The Bus will be here in 30 minutes.
Sam
(Stretching) Ok, ill be there in 5
Sam’s Foster Mum (Janice)
(Joyfully) And, don’t forget your essay paper.
Sam
(Quickly) Oh, thanks I forgot about that.
Sam’s Foster mum leaves the room as Sam grabs his essay paper and shoves it in his bag as we cut to his foster parents in the kitchen with his foster dad sat at the table, reading the newspaper as he is eating a plate of sausage and eggs on the table in front of him with a cup of coffee and a knife and fork either side of the plate. We see Sam’s foster mum joins him on the table with the same as she looks at the Sam’s breakfast with a glass of orange juice rather than the coffee that they have. We then see Sam quickly pace in, now fully dressed but he looks scruffy and he looks like he had just survived a Looney tunes style explosion with a backpack on his back as he takes a seat next to Janice. He begins to eat his breakfast when Janice begins to talk to him.
Janice
Have you got everything Sam?
Sam
Yeah, I have everything
Seth
(Putting his newspaper down) morning champ, did you finish the essay?
Sam
Yeah, I have it in my bag
Seth
Do you mind if I take a look to make sure its as good as I think it is.
Sam
Go for it
Sam takes a folder out of his bag containing his essay and hands it over to Seth who begins to skim through the essay, showing various levels intrigue and pride. Sam and Janice continue to eat their breakfast as Seth reads Sam’s essay, Seth finishes the essay and places it into the folder and hands it back to Sam who is just finishing his glass of orange juice and as he puts it back on the table he reaches over and takes the folder from Seth and asks
Sam
What do you think?
Seth
That’s awesome, I’m sure you will get top marks for that.
Sam puts the folder back in his bag, feeling happy about Seth being impressed with Sam’s work.
Sam
(Looking at the clock in the corner of the room) Oh no, I need to go
Sam gets up really quickly gets up and grabs his bag and as he turns round to go to the door he accidently knocks his empty glass of the table and it smashes on the floor into a million pieces.
Sam
Im so sorry, I didn’t mean to I ……
Seth
It’s fine, we will sort it. Don’t worry about it just…
Janice
Go, so you don’t miss the bus.
Sam
Ok, I’m sorry
Seth
There is no need to say sorry; it’s just an accident. We will talk about it when you get back if you want to but at the moment you need to not worry about it, we can always get a new one.
Janice
Quick before you miss the bus. We will see you later.
Sam walks out of the dining room/kitchen and into the hall and out of the front door. We get a look at the street that Sam lives on and he walks to the bus stop at the end of the street where he sees both mike and Taylor at the bus stop. He walks up to the bus stop and we see the three characters together at the bus stop waiting for their bus.
Scene 5
We continue where we left off in scene 4 with the three protagonists sitting at the bus stop. The three begin to make conversation as they wait for their bus.
Sam
Hi guys.
Taylor and Mike
Hey
Sam
(Sarcastically) Are you guys ready for another great day in the wonderful world of college?
Taylor
It wont be though
Mike
Thanks for those words of optimism
Sam
Taylor, did you finish the essay for history?
Taylor
OH….
Mike
(Interrupting) you’re screwed
Before Taylor can respond to mike we see the bus arrive and the doors open as the three of them got on the bus in the order Sam, Taylor and then Mike. Sam goes first and walks onto the bus and takes a seat next to Martin the character that he was talking to in scene 3. While Mike and Tyler go and sit together towards the back of the bus. Martin is a red haired 17 year old boy with brown eyes and is slightly below average height.
Martin
Hi
Sam
Hey, how was last night?
Martin
It was good
Sam
What did you guys do?
Martin
We just hung out and went to cinema.
Sam
Cool, what did you see?
Martin
Roadside Madness
Sam
Isn’t that the film about a sentient car that kills people?
Martin
Yeah, it’s really graphic as well
Sam
Was it any good?
Martin
Yeah it was alright, there was a lot of jump scares which was…
Sam
The Worst?
Martin
Yeah pretty much.
Sam
Well, I will be in no rush to see it then
Martin
I don’t blame you
Sam
It just sounds like Christine but directed by rob zombie
Martin
I’m pretty sure it was directed by rob zombie
Sam
Lucky guess, I mean most of his films are trash.
Martin
Well….
The bus pulls in to the college and stops as it drops everyone off. Sam and martin get off together with Mike and Taylor not far behind. We see the characters walk into the main entrance and as we hear the bell ring we transition to the next scene as they all go in separate directions.
Scene 6
We transition to Sam and Taylor in History as they sit next to each other on the desk at the back and second from the left. Putting them in the position that they can see everything in the classroom, from the door to their tutor’s desk. We focus on Taylor and Sam who are chatting.
Taylor
Oh god, I was going to finish it last night but I was really tired and fell asleep, I shouldn’t have fallen asleep why didn’t I just do it when I got home. I know its only the conclusion but that is worth the most marks.
Sam
It’s alright, it doesn’t matter you can do it now before our lesson starts. It shouldn’t take that long to make a conclusion if you’re quick and know what you are doing.
Taylor
Yeah, good idea. Wait why didn’t I just do that?
Sam
No idea (Shrugging his shoulders)
We see Taylor continues her essay scribbling a conclusion and Sam is going through his essay and we close in on Sam as we see he is very nervous about earlier on. This is causing him to worry about what will happen when he gets home. Before he can worry anymore the History tutor walks in through the door. This is immediately followed by Taylor quickly finishing her essay and make a mad dash to organise the pages as the tutor begins to talk.
History Tutor
Right, Good Morning everyone. Lets begin, first I will take in the papers that were due in today and then we can get started with our next topic.
The History tutor begins to walk around the room and collect people’s papers starting from the bottom right nearest the door. We cut back to Taylor who while relieved that she has finished the essay knowing that she will not be able to avoid the point that her conclusion is scribbled in pen where the rest of her essay is typed. We continue to see the history tutor collecting essays from around the room going from right to left then left to right and vice versa.
As the history teacher continues on his path around the room we see that Taylor becomes progressively and increasingly nervous with a hint of stress. When the history teacher eventually approaches Taylor she hastily hands her paper over and before the history teacher has a look at Taylors Paper, Sam hands his paper to the history tutor so that he doesn’t look at Taylor’s essay.
Taylor breaths a sigh of relief as she the history tutor walks away and picking up the last four essays and making his way to his desk.
Once he arrives at his desk he places the stack of essays next to his keyboard. He then begins to pace back and forth from his desk to the door of the room.
History Tutor
So, lets begin today’s lesson by starting our new project. Over the next 3 weeks you will be writing a paper on important events in the year 1885, you can choose any country you want. But what I want completed is an essay about the country of your choice and the important events that took place in that country during that year. Also I want a model of one of the important events that took place.
Once the History Tutor finished he walked to his desk and sat down.
History Tutor
There we go, I expect to see you start today. Either in here or somewhere else it doesn’t really matter as long as you do it.
The History Tutor begins to read the essays and mark them; we cut back to Taylor and Sam sitting at their desk. The two begin to take notes in their notebooks.
Sam
So, which country are you going to pick
Taylor
Probably the UK, it’s the easiest one, what about you?
Sam
Uhh, I think I’ll pick Germany
Taylor
Ok, any reason why?
Sam
I don’t know it’s just different
Taylor
Fair enough
Sam
So, do you wanna bail before he notices that you wrote you conclusion in pen.
Taylor
Yeah, alright
We see two put their stuff in their bag and as they walk out of the door we transition to Mike in PE.
Scene 7
We see mike in his PE kit in the gym in a line among the other students. We see he is in the beginning of a basketball match. We see everyone get put into teams and we see that mike is visibly tired. As he steps up to the middle of the court and prepares to get the ball first. As he gets ready for the blow of the whistle he begins to talk to himself.
Mike (Voice over in his head)
Ok, ok, here we go. I should have gone to bed earlier, oh this isn’t going to go well, but I mean as long as I don’t fall asleep I should be fine.
Just before the whistle blows the PE teacher begins to lay down the rules.
PE tutor (commandingly)
Right, some ground rules. First, no physical contact, second, no travelling, third work as a team and Finally Begin.
As the whistle blows mike leaps up in the air to hit the ball as his opponent leaps up at the same time and mike misses and loses the ball. The match begins and we see mike is not having a great time as he is slower than everyone else and is very much falling behind and it is visible that his lack of sleep is making him slower than usual, and this is causing his teammates to get quite frustrated with him as they are losing. We hear the PE tutor shouting at mike.
PE Tutor (Shouting)
Come on, keep up
Mike
I’m trying
PE Tutor
Try Harder
Mike tries to keep up but is finding it very difficult and is getting very worn out because of his lack of energy. He takes a moment to breath and is profusely sweating. The PE teacher shouting in a similar way to a soldier screams for help on a battlefield.
PE Tutor
Come on, you’re supposed to be good at this, what’s wrong with you lad?
Mike
I’m tired, I didn’t get much sleep last.
PE Tutor
Not good, enough
Mike
I’m sorry
PE Tutor
You’re benched. Indefinitely
Mike begins to walk across the room with his head down in shame. He walks out of the gym and into the changing room, upset and angry he punches his locker door. He takes a seat, upset and ashamed,
Scene 8
We transition to lunchtime where we see Mike at a table by himself with his lunch box in front of him, Taylor joins him on his right side with her lunch. She has a yellow Styrofoam takeaway box filled with chicken nuggets and chips. We also see Sam close behind her but before he can sit down martin catches up to him.
Martin
Hey, Sam wait up
Sam
Oh, hey martin, what’s up?
Martin
How was your morning?
Sam
It was good, what about yours?
Martin
Same as always, boring
Sam
Fair enough, so what are you up to tonight?
Martin
I’m not sure yet, probably going out with some friends same as last night, not sure where though. Why do you want to come?
Sam
I was just wondering, I probably wont be able to go since I have to work on history project.
Martin
Ah ok, well are you still up for tomorrow though?
Sam(Taking a moment to think)
Tomorrow?
Martin
Yeah, don’t you remember, it’s my 18thbirthday
Sam
Oh yeah, I’m so sorry that I forgot. It slipped my mind
Martin
It’s ok, are you able to go though?
Sam
Yeah, definitely I’ll be there.
Martin
Alright, man.
We hear someone shout martin’s name from across the room.
Martin
Well, I gotta go. I’ll speak to you later dude
Sam
Ok, see you Martin
The two fist bump as Martin walks away and Sam continues on his path and takes a seat on the other side of mike. This put mike in the middle of the three.
Sam has the same as Taylor except he has salt and pepper on his lunch where Taylor does not. Mike is still upset but is trying very hard to hide it from Sam and Taylor.
Taylor
You ok?
Mike
Yeah, I’m fine.
Taylor
Are you sure, you seem upset
Mike
I’m fine, don’t worry about it
Taylor
You know we are here for you right? You can tell us anything.
Mike
I know
Sam
How was Basket Ball?
Mike
I’d rather not talk about it
Taylor
So, something’s wrong?
Mike (With a hint of frustration)
No
Taylor
Then why would you rather not talk about it.
Mike (sternly)
It’s none of your business
Taylor (With an attitude)
Fine then
Sam
I think you guys need to calm down
Taylor
He’s clearly hiding something and he won’t admit it
Sam
Calm down
Taylor
No, not until he tells me what’s wrong
Mike (angrily shouting)
Stop trying to know everything about everyone’s life.
Taylor angrily storms out of the canteen and mike feeling even worse then before slumps over and continues eating.
Sam
Hey, its alright I’ll go talk to her.
Mike (Sadly)
Ok
Sam runs after Taylor.
Scene 9
Sam finds Taylor crying outside hidden behind the college.
Sam
Are you alright?
Taylor (quickly)
What do you think?
Sam
Look, I know he can be a bit unresponsive but you..
Taylor
I need to what?!
Sam
I don’t really know, but my point is you both need to not have a go at each other.
Taylor (joking)
Wow, your really bad at this, you know that.
Sam
Yeah, but it works
Taylor (Confused)
What, do you mean?
Sam
Well, by making a really horrible attempt to help I actually distracted you
Taylor
I don’t see your point?
Sam
I cheered you up by being bad at conversation
Taylor
Oh, well good job Sam.
Sam
Right. I think you should go and apologize to mike
Taylor
Yeah, ok
Sam
Well, that took a lot less time then I thought it would.
The Two walk back to the canteen and return to sitting either side of mike.
Taylor
Hey Mike, I’m sorry that I was pushy, I didn’t mean to make you mad, I just wanted to know what was wrong.
Mike
It’s ok, im sorry too I didn’t mean to get mad, I just didn’t want to talk about it.
Taylor
Ok, are we good now?
Mike
Yeah, we’re good.
Scene 10
We see the Three finishing the day and leaving college to head towards the bus. The Three are all visibly worn out. Mike is in his PE kit whilst Both Taylor and Sam are holding folders full of notes.
Taylor
Hey Sam, Can I borrow some blu tac off you?
Sam
Yeah sure, ill bring it in tomorrow.
Taylor
Ok, cool
Mike
What are you guys doing tonight?
Sam and Taylor
Doing our history Projects.
Mike
Ah right then
Sam
Why?
Mike
Just curious
Sam
Ok
Taylor
This got awkward
Sam
Yep
The three get on the bus, Mike and Taylor go on first and sit in the same place as they did the in the morning.
Sam takes a seat next to Martin.
Martin
Hey Sam
Sam
Hey
Martin
Not to be a…
Sam
Don’t give me that, just say it
Martin
Why do you hang out with them?
Sam
Who are you talking about?
Martin
Those two
Martin gestures to Mike and Taylor.
Sam
What about them?
Martin
You know, they are…
Sam
They are what?
Martin
You know?
Sam
No, I’m pretty certain I don’t
Martin
You know, they are …
Sam
Just say it, this isn’t filler for a poorly written script just spit it out
Martin
They aren’t exactly the most popular people
Sam
Really all that for the most basic observation.
Martin
Look, you chose to hang out with them rather than us
Sam
And?
Martin
Idk
Sam
I don’t understand your point here
Martin
Never mind
The two go silent and don’t talk for the rest of the journey. When the bus pulls at martin’s stop he gets off and Sam moves and sits behind Mike and Taylor for the rest of the ride until they get off. We see they all go their separate ways and we follow Sam as he walks home still nervous about what happened this morning.
Scene 11
We see Sam walk through the door and he spots Seth through the living room door and he quickly runs into his room before Seth can spot him. Sam put the chair from his desk against the door and his bag on top. Sam sits on his bed and after not too long he hears someone walking towards his room and grab the handle. He gets really nervous as he sees his door handle moving and then he hears a knock on his door.
Seth
Sam, do you mind if I come in?
Sam reluctantly walks over to his door and removes his back from on top of the chair, he puts the bag by the foot of his bed and moved his desk chair back to the desk and opens the door.
Seth
I didn’t hear you come home, how are you?
Sam
I’m alright, Sorry about this morning
Seth
It’s no problem; it’s fine we sorted it.
Sam
I’m really sorry
Seth
No need to say sorry.
Sam
Ok
Seth
So, what happened today?
Sam
Well, I got my new history project.
Seth
Cool
Sam
When are you going back to work?
Seth
I leave Saturday
Sam
Oh, ok how long are you going to be gone for?
Seth
2 weeks I think
Sam
Oh cool.
Seth
So, Sam are you up to anything tomorrow after college?
Sam
Yeah, It’s Martin’s birthday tomorrow
Seth
Oh yeah I totally forgot you were going to that, sorry
Sam
It’s no problem, I forgot too till today.
Seth (Chuckling)
Ah, right. I guess I’ll see you later, oh your tea will be ready soon, remember its my turn tonight.
Sam
I should probably get my hazmat suit then.
Seth (jokingly)
Thanks
Seth leaves the room and closes the door. Sam returns to her bed and grabs his tv remote from his bedside table and turns on the tv. The tv turns on and we see Sam get out his stuff out of his bag and begins his history project.
Scene 12
We transition through the tv to see Mike in his living room, breathing heavily and yawning. He is watching the television and his eyelids are drooping, he is trying to keep himself from going to sleep. His mum then walks in.
Meredith
Are you alright honey?
Mike (Trying to keep his eyes open)
I’m fine, just tired
Meredith
You should go and get some sleep
Mike
I don’t want too
Meredith
Why?
Mike
I don’t need to
Meredith
Don’t be stupid, you can barely keep your eyes open.
Mike
I’m fine mum
Meredith
Your shattered, just go and sleep
Mike (Reluctantly)
Alright
Meredith
Good, I will see you when you wake up.
Scene 13
We transition to see Taylor sat in her kitchen, eating her tea. She then hears her dad walk in through the front door.
Robert
Taylor are you home?
Taylor
Yep, I’m here
Robert walks into the kitchen to greet Taylor.
Robert
Hey
Taylor
Hi
Robert
How was college?
Taylor
It was alright
Robert
Cool, I see you already made your own tea
Robert grabs a ready meal out of the freezer and begins to cook it in the microwave.
Taylor
How was work?
Robert
Yeah, it was good
Taylor
Nice
Robert
Did you hand in your history paper?
Taylor
Yeah
Robert
But did you finish it?
Taylor
Yeah
Robert
Are you sure?
Taylor
Yep, I’m pretty sure I finished it
Robert (jokingly)
Alright, I’ll take your word for it.
Taylor looks over at a picture on the window sill of a blonde woman around the age of 35 who resembles Taylor. Robert notices this.
Robert
You miss her?
Taylor
Yeah
Robert
Me too
Taylor
It’s the anniversary soon
Robert
Do you want to go out for tea for it
Taylor
Eh
Robert
What about a kebab?
Taylor
Better
Robert
You remind me so much of her
Taylor
Slightly creepy but thanks
Robert
It’s not creepy
Taylor
A little
The microwave pings and Robert grabs his food and joins Taylor at the table, and as the enjoy their food we transition away.
Scene 14
We open with Meredith opening mike’s door as we cut from black. She seems in a rush.
Meredith
Oi, get up
Mike
What.... What time is it?
Meredith
7:45
Mike(Surprised)
Hmm, come again?
Meredith
You heard me, now move or you’re going to miss the bus
Mike jumps out of his bed and grabs his clothes and as Meredith leaves we pan through the wall following her into the living room. She goes up to the mirror in the centre of the room and cleans up her hair, as she finishes up with this we see mike walk in fully dressed for college with his bag over his back. Upon finishing her hair Meredith notices Mike in the doorway of the room.
Meredith
Are you ready?
Mike
Yeah
Meredith
Did you check
Mike
Yes
Meredith
Ok, your lunch box is on the side in the kitchen
Mike
Ok, thanks mum
Meredith
Don’t forget to get a breakfast bar for the bus ride
Mike
Ok…. Got one.
Meredith
Good, no hurry up we need to leave otherwise we are both going to be late.
Mike
Alright
The two leave the house hastily and get into Meredith’s car. She starts the car and drive to the bus stop.
Meredith
How did you sleep last night
Mike
Fine
Meredith
That’s good, what have you got today then?
Mike
Same as yesterday
Meredith
Sports all day then?
Mike
Yep.
Meredith
Oh Mike, before I forget I am working late tonight so you will have to walk home. There are plenty of ready meals in the freezer you can choose from, do you have your keys to get in?
Mike
Yeah, Why are you working late tonight?
Meredith
I just need to catch up on some work
Mike
Alright
Before mike can say anything else Meredith stops the car.
Meredith
We are here
Mike
Thanks mum
Meredith
No problem, but you need to go, I don’t want to be late for work.
Mike gets out of the car.
Mike
Love you mum
Meredith
Love you too, honey
Mike walks to the bus stop as Meredith drives off.
Scene 15
We open where we left off in scene 14 with Mike joining Taylor at the bus stop.
Mike
Hi
Taylor

You alright
Taylor
Yeah I’m fine, what about you?
Mike
I’m good thanks
Taylor
So, are you doing anything tonight?
Mike
No, What about you?
Taylor
Same
Mike
Do you want to hang out tonight then, my mum is working late so I get the house to myself.
Taylor
Yeah, sure that’ll be fun
Mike
Cool
Taylor then notices mike walking down the street to join them at the bus stop.
Sam
Hey guys
Taylor
Did you bring the blue tac
Sam
Yeah, here you go
Sam hands Taylor the blue tac.
Mike
You alright this morning Sam
Sam
Yeah, I’m good thanks man, what about you?
Mike
I’m good dude, thanks
Sam
Cool
The three turn around as the bus arrives at the stop. The three get on and as the doors close we cut to the next scene.
Scene 16
We cut to lunchtime where we see the three at the same table as the day before. Then we see Martin walk up to the table with his group of friends who all surround the table.
Sam
Are you alright Martin?
Martin
Yeah, I’m fine
Sam
Is there anything you want?
Martin
Oh, yes I just wanted to make sure that your coming to my 18thtonight
Sam
Yeah, I said yesterday, I’m going
Taylor
Hey, what about us can we go as well
Sam
Yeah, can they go as well
Martin
No
Mike
Wait, why?
Martin
Because I don’t know you guys
Mike
Mate, we went to the same Secondary.
Martin
Yeah, and?
Mike
You know who we are.
Martin
Yeah, well we only planned for so many people so we won’t have enough drinks for everyone.
Mike
It’s not like your parents are super rich, oh wait
Martin
We can’t get more stuff it’s too close to the party
Mike
We’ll bring our own drinks if you want
Martin
No, I only want people with more than 1 parent
Sam
Seriously
Mike
Great insult
Taylor
Real creative
Martin
Hey Mike, maybe your dad bailed because you don’t know how to take a joke.
Martin’s friends begin to laugh. Sam stands up
Sam
Don’t be like this
Martin
It’s not my fault he’s a….
Before Martin can finish Mike takes a swing at Martin Barely missing him, Sam and Taylor stand between the two before things can escalate.
Taylor (To Mike)
Don’t do this
Sam (To Martin)
Go, get out of her
Martin
What, I did nothing wrong
Sam
Oh, you’re in the wrong here, so go.
Martin
Fine
Martin and his friends leave the canteen In a huddle as Sam goes over to Taylor and Mike.
Sam
Are you alright mike?
Mike
Yeah, I’m fine
Sam
You sure
Mike
Yeah
Sam
Don’t listen to him
Mike
Cliché much
Sam (Jokingly trying to cheer mike up)
Now that’s a low blow
Taylor
Should we get out of here
Mike
Yeah, alright.
The three stand up, grab their stuff and leave the canteen.
Sam
Hey guys, I’ll catch up with you.
Taylor
Alright, see you later Sam
Taylor and Mike walk off to go to find somewhere else to sit and eat their lunch. While Sam walks in the opposite direction and as he turns a corner, he takes his phone out and we see that he has a unread text message from Martin. The text reads (You’re still coming tonight, right?)
Sam replies (Yeah, of course). We transition away to our next scene.
Scene 17
We Cut to later that day where we see Sam in his bedroom getting ready for Martin’s Party, We see he is wearing a shirt and jeans and he is tying his tie, when Seth and Janice walk in.
Janice
Aww, he looks so grown up
Seth
I know, I remember when we first met you, you where small and now, (Sigh) you are quite the opposite of small.
Sam
Thanks guys, kind of unnecessary but thanks anyway.
Seth
So, what time do you need me to come and pick you up.
Sam
I guess around 11 ish
Seth (Looks at his watch)
So about three hours then
Sam
Yeah, something like that.
Janice
Have, you got your phone?
Sam
Yeah
Janice
Have you got your invite?
Sam
Yep
Sam pulls out a piece of paper from his pocket to show Janice and Seth.
Janice
Ok
Sam then puts it back in his pocket.
Seth
Are we all good, now?
Sam
Yeah, I think so
Janice
Oh, one more thing.
Janice walks up to Sam and grabs his tie and fixes it as well as removing the creases. After she finishes she looks at Sam with a smile.
Janice
There, perfect
Seth
Ok, are we ready to go champ.
Sam
Yeah
Seth (Taking car keys out of his pocket)
Right then, lets go
The two walk out of the room and out of the door, As they walk into the driveway Janice stops and watches the two from the door as they head to Seth’s car which had moved to the street so that it would be easier to get out of the street. We see that Seth goes further ahead. As Seth stands In the middle of the road he turns to face Sam.
Seth
Come on, Keep up Sa……
Just then a car comes out of know where and collides with Seth. Smashing the windshield. This leaves Sam and Janice In pure Shock as Janice runs inside and phones the ambulance. The scene ends with a close up of Sam frozen with fear.
Scene 18
We Cut to Sam still standing there in complete shock as we see Paramedics carrying a Stretcher, We never actually see Seth’s Body post collision but from the reaction of the characters we can gather and imagine the horrific image that is Seth’s mangled Body.
We see Janice grab Sam, hugging him tight crying. A Paramedic walks up to the two after closing the ambulance doors.
Paramedic
We, are going to try our best to save him, come to the hospital and we can keep you updated
Sam(Stuttering)
o…o o k
Paramedic
We will try our best to save him.
The Paramedic leaves and gets in the ambulance and upon the ambulance driving off Janice and Seth follow the ambulance to the local hospital in their car.
We see the two in a waiting room, Janice is breaking down in terror, afraid of losing her husband, Sam is still very quiet as he is trying to comprehend what is happening.
We see the Paramedic from before walking into the waiting room.
Paramedic
Mr. Winchester
Janice
That’s us
Paramedic
The doctor will see you now, follow me
The paramedic leads the two into the doctor’s office where they take a seat in the doctor’s office. With the paramedic leaving once they take a seat.
Doctor
Hi, Mrs. Winchester?
Janice
Yeah
Doctor
Ok, my name is Dr. Weller (Sigh) I’m sorry to say Mrs. Winchester but …
Janice
What Happened, is he ok, where is he?
Doctor
I’m afraid to say that your husband has passed away.
Janice (Bursting into tears)
No, why didn’t you save him
Doctor
We tried our best, but he couldn’t be saved, I’m so sorry.
Janice cries into Sam’s jacket as they hug both in tears over the death of Seth
Scene 19
We open scene 19 with a shot of Sam’s therapist sitting in an armchair with a clipboard and paper. The Therapist is twirling a pen in their hand, we cut to see Sam sat on a sofa, his hair significantly longer and untidy. He is facing the floor we cut back to the therapist as he begins the session.
Therapist
Ok, so to begin with, Lets talk about your day
Sam
It was the same as yesterday, and the day before and the day before that and the day before and…
Therapist
Ok, so lets talk about the aftermath of the incident
Sam
It’s only our first session, why so soon
Therapist
I can’t help you unless you let me know what happened in your life since.
Sam
Alright. (Takes a breath) Since the “incident” a lot of things have happened.
We cut to a time lapse of the major events of the last three months as Sam is telling his therapist about it.
Sam
Well, (sigh) Right after what happened I didn’t go to martin’s and in turn he decided to stop speaking to me, which was surprisingly more pleasant than I thought.
Therapist
Right (Makes a note), What about your other friends what happened with them
Sam
Mike and Taylor?
Therapist
Yeah
Sam
Well, Mike and Taylor got together, Mike’s mom got a boyfriend I haven’t spoken to either of them for a while but then again I haven’t really seen much of them for a couple of weeks so.
Therapist
Why haven’t you seen them
Sam
They haven’t been in college.
Therapist
Alright, anything else
Sam
Yeah, I got into a fight with martin, well kinda.
Therapist
Elaborate.
We transition to the canteen where we see Sam sitting alone, when martin surrounded by a crowd of people walk up to him
Sam
You alright
Martin
Yeah, but Seth isn’t
Sam
Do you have to be such a
Therapist
You called him a what
Sam
He is, there is no other way of saying it
Therapist
Ok, continue
Sam
Ok,
We transition back to the flashback
Martin
Real good insult there
Sam
Shut up
Martin
Are you going to make me
Sam stands up and goes to leave
Martin
Watch out for the cars on the way, careful not to get mangled
Sam turns round and punches Martin in the chin with Martin falling back. We then see the history teacher who witnessed this tell Sam to go to the principal’s office.
Principal
So, why did you hit him?
Sam
Isn’t it obvious
Principal
Not really
Sam
I don’t want to do this.
Sam stands up and heads towards the door.
Principal
Sit back down
Sam
Uh, no
Principal
If you walk out that door your suspended
Sam walks out the door, we flash forward back to the therapist’s office.
Therapist
Is that all
Sam
Yeah, that about covers it.
Therapist
Alright
The Therapist looks at the clock and realises that the session is finished.
Therapist
It seems our time is up.
Sam
Ok
Therapist
Thank you for cooperating, how about same time next week.
Sam
Yeah, alright
Therapist
Ok
The therapist stands up and heads for the door and turns toward Sam before leaving
Therapist
I know, its been tough, but it will get easier.
As the Therapist walks out the room we transition to the next scene.
Scene 20
We open with Mike and Taylor in Taylor’s bedroom. The two are looking very worried.
Mike
Do you really think that this a good idea?
Taylor
Look, your mum has got her boyfriend she will be fine
Mike
Your telling me that we should leave home, we have no money, what are we going to do, where will we go, how will we get there.
Taylor
Look, I have £600 in my savings account, I stole my dad’s keys and we can find a place to stay and we can find jobs no problem.
Mike
What are we going to tell are parents?
Taylor
Nothing, we are just going to leave, no one needs to get hurt
Mike
So, how exactly do you plan on doing that.
Taylor
Look, I told my dad that I am going to my friends for the weekend, so when he goes out in about 5 minutes we get in the car and go.
Mike
Well, what happens after the weekend’s over wouldn’t he wonder where you are, you know we could just tell them we are leaving home.
Taylor
Two things, my Dad will gets far too stressed and will never leave us alone and how do you think your mum’s going to react after everything the two of you have been through together.
Mike
Alright, you have a point.
We here a door closed and a car start up.
Taylor
There he goes.
Mike
Wait how many cars does your dad own.
Taylor
3
Mike
Oh, ok then
Taylor
Why?
Mike
Well, you said we were taking his car and I wasn’t aware that your dad had one than one more car.
Taylor
Ok, are you ready now?
Mike
Yeah
Taylor
Ok
Mike
Wait, what about my mum
Taylor
Did you tell her that you were at mine
Mike
Yeah
Taylor
Just text her saying that you are staying at mine for the weekend.
Mike
Alright
Taylor
Right, lets go. You can text your mum on the way.
Mike
Alright
Taylor
Right, we actually need to go now, so come on.
The two stand up and head towards the door and as they leave we transition then to our final scene.
Scene 21
We open with Sam in his bedroom watching tv, he remains strait faced, apart from showing signs of contemplation. We see he is hiding an inner sadness. We see Janice slowly and softly open the door.
Janice
Hey, how are you doing?
Seth
Yeah, I’m fine
Janice
Are you sure?
Seth
Yeah
Janice
Alright, if you need to talk just let me know
Seth
Ok, thanks
Janice leaves the room and as she does, Seth grabs his phone and quickly exits from his window, we cut to Sam climbing out of a staircase onto a rooftop where he takes his phone out of his pocket and begins to type a message to Janet.
Seth (Voice over as he is typing)
I’m sorry that I couldn’t do this in person, its just too hard to do it, I’m too weak. I’m so sorry, I could have saved him. I should have gone first, I should have seen it coming. You know every night, I think about it. But what stops me each and every time is that I don’t deserve a painless death, I’m too pathetic to even go through with it. I’m sorry, your better off without me.
Sam drops the phone and walks to the edge of the roof and as he goes to jump the screen turns to black as we hear a phone ping.
