Introduction
so the following article is going to be quite a short one. In this piece I am going to be going over CV's and creative portfolio and I will be breaking down what exactly it is that each of these are, so without further ado let us jump right in.
What is a CV?
Firstly a CV stands for curriculum Vitae. The term when translated into Latin means "the story of your life". A CV basically amounts to a short list of facts about you, your skills , your qualifications, your experiences and career history. When you are searching for a job it is essential for you to have a CV as the purpose of a CV is to show to an employer that you have suitable qualifications as well as suitable skills and suitable experience for the role that you are applying for. When creating a CV it is best to put some real effort into making it look professional and making the CV more appealing to an employer thus encouraging them to give it a read. CV is a way of showing potential employers the skills that you possess and show the experience that you have that makes you qualified for this job. A good way to think of a CV is by viewing it as your own personal advertisement that advertises you to an employee similar to how a product is marketed.
Why is it Used?

A CV is used when you are applying for a job, when you send off an application for a job you will be required to also send your CV to the employer. The purpose behind having a CV is that it is a collection of all of the different achievements that you have achieved throughout your career as well as being a collection of all the different skills that you have accumulated over the course of your life. The purpose of a CV is to make you look as appealing as possible to employers.

A CV is important because a CV is required and necessary when applying for any job, if you apply for a job and don't submit a CV then you will be instantly rejected, without a CV there is no way that an employer can know whether you are suitable for job or not. If your CV has had effort and time put into it and it looks good then your CV can leave a good impression of you on your potential employer and this could mean that you have a better chance of being hired by said employer. A first impression is what stands between you and a potential job or career. Just as a rule of thumb your CV should not exceed 2 pages. If your CV is too long then the employer will be bored and wont care to read it and you wont get the job, however by the same token it is advised that you keep your CV longer than one page because if your CV is to short then the employee is likely to assume that you don't have much to offer and so you will not receive a call-back and wont get the job.
What information would you include in a CV?

First you list the skills that you posses, like for example if you have good people skills or are really good at working a part of a team or group then you would include these on your CV. Another thing that you would include on your CV is the qualifications that you have achieved over the course of your life this covers everything from your educational qualifications like your GCSE's, A levels, Btecs, degrees etc. As well as extending to things like qualifications you have attained through extra curricular activities. Examples of this are if you had a qualification in scuba driving or something of a similar nature. Something else that you should include on your CV is Your past employment and references for people who you used to work for in these previous jobs. Anyway by putting your previous employment it shows that you are able to work and connecting to this it is also very good to include your experience when working as it shows that you are able to follow orders and that you are capable of completing the tasks that the employer will need you to complete.
What is a creative Portfolio?
A creative portfolio is a collection of all the work that you have created and commissioned through out you time working in the creative industry. Depending on the sector of the creative industry that you work in or are trying to get into will dictate what kind of work will be featured within your creative portfolio. For example, say you wanted to go into the film industry then your creative portfolio would consist of a sizzle reel that will show the person viewing the kind of work that you have done and also will give them an idea of what kind of products that they are able to produce. When creating a sizzle reel always put your best piece of work first and second best last. By putting your best piece of work in the beginning you are more likely to have a producer watch the whole reel if they are impressed by that first piece as with the amount of sizzle reels that said producer would have to go through you have to grab them as soon as possible and so the idea is to put your best work first. However if you are looking at a more photography based job or career then you creative portfolio is more likely to be full of images that show off your work and in turn are their to demonstrate your talents and abilities as a creator.
